The Chokecherry is a small tree with an irregular, oval-rounded crown. It is native to Missouri and flowers best in full sun. It grows in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil. It will flower with fragrant, cup-shaped, 5-lobed, white flowers in mid-spring that will give way to dark purple/black berries in August. The fruits will attract many birds and butterflies. In the fall it will turn golden yellow to orange.
Best Uses:
A small, flowering tree that is best used as a border or in open woodland gardens. In the wild, they may form colonies, you must remove suckers to prevent any unwanted spread.
